about yword
yword is a collaborative crossword. everyone in the game sees the same grid, and every keystroke syncs in real time across devices.
how to play
- pick a puzzle from the lobby and press start game. you'll land on a shared grid with a link you can send to friends.
- anyone who opens the link joins the game. no account needed.
- tap a cell to start typing. the active clue shows above the grid on mobile, or to the side on desktop.
- the arrow keys or tab move between clues. space flips direction on the active cell.
- the eye icon on mobile (or the buttons on desktop) reveal a letter, the active word, or the whole grid.
- the check button flashes incorrect letters for two seconds for everyone in the game.
- chat lives in the side panel on desktop and expands from the bottom on mobile. quick-message buttons post common replies in one tap.
accounts
you don't need an account to play — anonymous play works everywhere on this site. signing in keeps the same display name and colour across games, and marks puzzles you've already played in the lobby.
sign-in uses passkeys: one tap on face id or touch id, no password, no email. passkeys sync across apple devices via icloud keychain; on other platforms you can register a passkey per device.
importing puzzles
yword can ingest .puz files from most cryptic sources. use the import a puzzle link on the lobby. imports stay private to the importer until published.
creators
yword is designed and built by tom dyson, sofia dyson and ben moody.
